2001 Review
Compact, well established club serving up a
selection of tunes, mainly indie with a splattering
of funk and 80's pop for good measure. It's not
a glamorous club, but it makes for a relaxed
night out with a friendly crowd. Spread over
two floors, each of which is fairly small, there
is a tiny dance-floor where people cram
together moshing Teen Spirit style. You can
view these festivities from the safety of the balcony
on the slightly less busy upper level
(crowd diving from here is not recommended!).

2002 Review
You want an 80's night, or an evening dedicated to
glam rock, or a 60's soul occasion, or a mammoth
night of chart music and 90's classics ?. The
Brickhouse has a night allocated for each, and
they're all pretty decent. It's small, but the two
floors help space punters out a little. The DJ is
very hard to get to, making requests a tad tricky but the bouncers are ever so helpful when
searching for a taxi at chucking out time, but they
soon sort you out if there's any trouble brewing.
Cheap, easy and pretty good fun. Near the defunct
Hacienda, on the way to deansgate Locks from
Oxford Road

Brickhouse Tenth Birthday


Ten years is a long time in clubbing these days
with many venues opening and closing before
their flyers have been printed. So it is comforting
to have a faithful old stalwart like the Brickhouse
standing resolute in these changing times.
Not that it's time for pipe and slippers yet, for this
week the club is holding its tenth birthday party,
and for those of you with intimate knowledge of
the venue, you'll realise how sweaty this is going
to be. The night promises to be something of a musical retrospective with local DJ's Mark Smith,
Gavin Stewart and Dave Turner playing Brickhouse classics with a sprinkling of anything
from indie to 1980s to 1970s funk. Although aimed primarily at members and invited guests, there
may be room to squeeze in a few extra on the night.
If you can't get in, fear not, the party mood will
continue well into the weekend.

The Brickhouse on a Saturday is the best (only real ?) indie club in town - none of this Nu-metal / Goth / Skater sh*t and not too much Madchester stuff (yawn) - great, great tunes, new stuff and old stuff and stuff you just NEVER hear. Top 60s tunes as well. Dead friendly club as well, no townies / beers monsters, really laid back. The only club I know guaranteed to play the Fall, SFA, old Blur stuff, Smiths album tracks... If you like indie music you gotta go !

The Brickhouse on a Saturday night - ace ace indie club - really cool old tunes, not your usual 50 Stone Roses tunes a night (though you still get some!) no shirts 'n' skirts, dead friendly. Really ace music though. No kids either.
